The Tuscan-Emilian Apennine National Park was established in 2001, the territory of Lucca, near the ridge, extending the area already protected reserves Orecchiella Lamarossa and Pania of Corfino. Garfagnana shows the terraced barley and maize (of fine quality eight files) that are the first image of this "earth friendly and guardian of their liberty" as described by Livy.
Arriving by sea, Alta Versilia has its own door and into the villages of Seravezza Stazzema Levigliani and thorns that, near the Mount Drilled, prepares us for the scenarios of the Apuan Alps. The Regional Park of the Apuan Alps, established in 1985, extends between the provinces of Lucca and Massa: its breathtaking landscapes, with the peaks of Mount Pisanino (1947m.), Monte Cavallo (1888m) and the Snare Cross (1858 m), makes us feel in the face of "a stormy sea instantly petrified", where the mining of marble is still an important industry.
The beautiful landscape is dotted with important artistic and architectural presences: Castiglione di Garfagnana, with its circle of walls still intact and the medieval bridge, Castelnuovo di Garfagnana Ariostesca with the Rock and Fortress of Monte Alfonso Fortress Verrucole S . Romano in Garfagnana. The ancient streets crossing as Bibulca and then Vandelli are still dotted with beautiful architecture such as San Pellegrino in Alpe.
